Bluetooth® and FMST-Ericsson Bluetooth

Bluetooth and FM were the first local wireless connectivity technologies adopted by mobile phones and today they have reached a penetration of almost 100% in the mobile market. ST-Ericsson is a pioneer in high quality Bluetooth and FM products and has so far delivered more than one billion high performance FM receivers.

More and more stringent worldwide regulations for hands-free driving and increased adoption of Bluetooth technology by the car industry mandate the support of Bluetooth for a mobile phone. In many countries FM is still one of the most used broadcast technologies where users expect being able to listen to their preferred FM station on their mobile phone. This, along with a fast adoption of the GNSS (Global navigation satellite systems) technology in mobile phones which increases the importance of RDS for updating the traffic information in real-time is the basis of the large adoption of FM technology in the mobile market.

MINIMIZED POWER CONSUMPTION AND MAXIMIZED RF PERFORMANCE

More recently the FM technology has been integrated as part of ST-Ericsson’s combo solutions (Bluetooth + FM Radio as in STLC2690, GPS + Bluetooth + FM Radio as in CG2905) delivering on the continually increasing and demanding performance requirements. For Bluetooth products ST-Ericsson brings a proven and strong legacy on minimizing power consumption and maximizing the RF performance. We provide a Bluetooth complete solution for the mobile market.

What is Bluetooth, FM?

Bluetooth is a proprietary open technology standard for creating personal area networks (PAN) with high level of security data exchange and voice transfer between fixed and mobile devices.Created originally by telecoms vendor Ericsson in 1994, it is today managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

FM is a broadcasting technology that uses frequency modulation, FM (normally band between 87.5 to 108.0 MHz) to provide high-fidelity sound over broadcast radio. It supports analog mono and stereo audio broadcasting along with low bit rate data (RDS/RBDS).
