ST-Ericsson platforms provide a flexible and scalable solution with respect to frequency band and access technology support, delivering a rich experience regardless of where you are. Even though we are converging to a global standard with LTE, the network market is still fragmented and the allocated frequency bands depend on region and the available access technology. At the same time mobile phone users expect to get the same quality of service everywhere. To attain this, our platforms have strong capabilities to handle each access technology, seamless handover between the networks, roaming and flexible band support.
ST-Ericsson platforms will bring the same rich experience everywhere by delivering:
The ST-Ericsson platform portfolio is capable of handling all technologies on a variety of bands:
ST-Ericsson platforms have flexible and scalable band solutions that facilitate band combinations to either reduce the number of bands for cost efficiency or adapt band support depending on operator demand and domestic requirements.
The number of bands defined in 3GPP has increased tremendously and has resulted in unlimited band combinations depending on roaming agreements among operators, domestic band arrangements and operator specific bands. Furthermore, the interference with other radio technologies, such as Bluetooth, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, WiFi needs to be handled. ST-Ericsson platforms utilize co-banding, using the same GSM and WCDMA/LTE FDD paths and RF front end modules, including common band combinations. In this way we can deliver platforms and at the same time bring down cost and size.
Inter RAT - the ability to perform handovers without interruption of service and is a key requirement for all cellular networks. This situation has now changed from just supporting voice call during handover to also requiring the support of cell transitions for multiple services (voice, video and data) and also to seamlessly encompass a variety of wireless technologies).
Quality of Service (QoS) - the ability to provide different priority to different applications, users, or data flows, or to guarantee a certain level of performance to a data flow.
Voice over LTE (VoLTE) - LTE is the first 3GPP RAT that does not support circuit switched voice calls. To enable telephony in LTE,3GPP has defined a packet switched VoIP solution called VoLTE.
