The Aero4213 is a complete RF transceiver for multi-band GSM, GPRS, and EDGE wireless communications. The receive section interfaces between the RF band-select SAW filters and the baseband subsystem. The Aero4213 receiver leverages a proven digital low-IF architecture and enables a universal baseband interface without the need for complex dc offset compensation. The transmit section of the Aero4213 provides a complete upconversion path from the baseband subsystem and the power amplifier and uses a unique dual-transmitter architecture for EDGE. In GMSK mode, an offset phase locked loop (OPLL) is used to modulate the I and Q signals. In 8-PSK mode, the OPLL is unmodulated and acts as a local oscillator (LO) to the direct upconversion mixer.
All sensitive components, such as VCOs, loop filters, tuning inductors, and varactors are totally integrated into a single integrated circuit. The Aero4213 transceiver includes a digitally controlled crystal oscillator (DCXO) and completely integrates the reference oscillator and varactor functionality.
The DigRF baseband interface provides a complete digital interface between the Aero4213 and the baseband subsystem, allowing for the elimination of mixed signal circuitry from the baseband including receive ADCs and filters, transmit DACs, AFC DAC, PA ramp DAC, and front-end control outputs. The DigRF interface enables lower system cost, lower power consumption in receive mode, improved performance and better reliability compared to analog implementations.
