The Aero4228 is a dual-mode HSPA/EDGE transceiver for mobile handsets, supporting tri-band HSPA and quad-band EDGE operation. In addition to the 850,900, 1800 and 1900 MHz bands for EDGE, the Aero4228 supports WCDMA bands I-VI and VIII-X. Typical WCDMA combinations are bands I, II and V together; bands I and VII together or bands II, IV and V together.
No inter-stage SAW filters are required for either WCDMA transmit or receive. Together with on-chip LNAs for both EDGE and HSPA, RX and TX synthesizers with fully integrated loop filters, DC-DC converter and LDO voltage regulators, the Aero4228 provides the level of integration necessary for handset manufacturers to implement a 3G mobile terminal with a small PCB footprint and low bill of materials (BOM). Moreover, the Aero4228 is manufactured in CMOS technology, enabling our customers to reap economies of scale in this readily available process technology.
With its efficient DC-DC converter integrated on-chip, the Aero4228 can be powered directly from the 3.7V battery, making the Aero4228 unique as a low voltage, low power solution requiring minimum power support from other ICs in the RF subsystem.
The Aero4228 uses an industry-standard DigRF 2G baseband interface combined with an analog I/Q WCDMA baseband interface.
