The CG2905 is a true single-chip GNSS (GPS and GLONASS), Bluetooth and FM Rx/Tx device.
It is built in 40nm technology to take advantage of better geometry in delivering a longer user experience with lower power consumption. The high level of integration on chip leads to the smallest footprint in the industry; reduced power consumption and minimized total bill of materials to enable low-cost PCB layout in the smallest of places. With the complexity surrounding today’s smartphone designs, the device provides the handset manufacturers much needed room to allow small and thin designs or further enhancing their offerings with additional value-added components.

The end user can operate BT, GNSS and FM features completely independently to reduce power consumption or can run them concurrently without compromising on performance.
The CG2905 is optimized for use in mobile applications such as smartphones, PNDs, PDAs and digital cameras that have strict constraints on power consumption and battery life. In addition to extremely low static power consumption, the CG2905 provides a multitude of system improvements such as embedded SBC codec or on-chip RDS to help offload the host from these tasks, thereby reducing the overall system power consumption.
The newly designed GNSS hardware solution combines the use of GPS and GLONASS satellites enabling much faster position fixes especially in dense areas reducing the effects of urban canyons. The Bluetooth and FM subsystems have also been improved from the last-generation to provide a significantly enhanced user-experience in terms of longevity of use and range. The CG2905 solution provides comprehensive interfaces and can be easily connected to any baseband or application processor. Pre-integrated within ST-Ericsson platforms, it guarantees a fast time to market.
Designed to ensure coexistence and simultaneous usage with other cellular radios such as WCDMA, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, the CG2905 delivers the performances in these stringent environments for a better overall user experience. Complemented with ST-Ericsson’s CW1150 IEEE 802.11bgn and CW1250 IEEE 802.11abgn Wi-Fi devices using ePTA technology with a built-in coexistence manager the CG2905 furthers Bluetooth/Wi-Fi coexistence while delivering on power and performance. Using a BT stereo headset (audio streaming) ST-Ericsson’s ePTA technology offers up to 50% more Wi-Fi throughput compared to standard PTA.
With an extremely high level of integration, the CG2905 requires minimal external components allowing for an extremely compact solution size that can be easily routed on low-cost PCBs and placed on small form-factor boards for thin and sleek designs. Furthermore, the placement of the components is not critical, making the solution very flexible and so helping our customers achieve faster time-to-market.
A comprehensive suite of software is provided with the CG2905 device including drivers for Linux/Android, Windows Phone and Symbian/S60, along with production test, engineering software utilities and tools.
