The market is now embracing and driving the evolution of LTE — the web centric wireless standard with higher bit rates, higher spectrum efficiency and lower latency.
ST-Ericsson is at the forefront of the development of LTE standardization. In 2009, together with Ericsson, ST-Ericsson carried out the first demonstration of a multimode LTE/HSPA device that can move seamlessly between a live LTE network and a live HSPA network without dropping the connection. ST-Ericsson is also running comprehensive interoperability tests with leading operators and infrastructure vendors to ensure proven and verified products.
LTE does not offer only faster data rates (up to 100Mps downlink and 50Mbps uplink), it also supports extremely low latency, critical for some applications such as online gaming, augmented reality and real time web applications. Our platforms are customized for utilizing every advantage LTE brings. The optimization towards IP-based services will enable “always on” applications with low latency, high data throughput and minimized power consumption.
The world’s first LTE networks were launched by TeliaSonera in Sweden and Norway in December 2009. LTE is now gaining momentum from the fast growing HSPA and HSPA+ market together with new powerful devices and flat-rate tariffs that feed the data traffic. The data revenues are falling and at the same time the traffic increase. LTE (FDD/TDD) is essential to increase the capacity in the networks and deliver lower cost per bit. LTE provides 2 to 5 times greater spectral efficiency than most advanced 3G networks, reducing the cost per bit and allowing better economics for operators and end users. (GSMA)
LTE is the next evolution in mobile network standards defined by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) and supports operations in both the paired spectrum and unpaired spectrum. It enables efficient spectrum utilization for both legacy and future wireless frequency bands. Channel bandwidths of 1.4-20MHz are supported.
The wide industry support for LTE ensures economies of scale, providing cost-efficient solutions. LTE enables consumers to enjoy high-definition television, video streaming and simpler, instant access to internet.
