In 2009, together with Ericsson, ST-Ericsson carried out the first demonstration of a multimode LTE/HSPA device that can move seamlessly between a live LTE network and a live HSPA network without dropping the connection. ST-Ericsson is also running comprehensive interoperability tests with leading operators and infrastructure vendors to ensure proven and verified products.

The world’s first LTE networks were launched by TeliaSonera in Sweden and Norway in December 2009. LTE is now gaining momentum from the fast growing HSPA and HSPA+ market together with new powerful devices and flat-rate tariffs that feed the data traffic. The data revenues are falling and at the same time the traffic increase. LTE (FDD/TDD) is essential to increase the capacity in the networks and deliver lower cost per bit. What is LTE?
LTE is the next evolution in mobile network standards defined by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) and supports operations in both the paired spectrum and unpaired spectrum. It enables efficient spectrum utilization for both legacy and future wireless frequency bands. Channel bandwidths of 1.4-20MHz are supported.
